Training -- Subject:  Xingyi Methods -- As I mentioned in the March 1981 issue, I met with the Rev. Ming Yee (Buddhist priest) in Hawaii on several occasions.  I was able to view his Xingyi method and have him look at my form.  He performs his movements very smoothly with no strong exhalations on the strikes and with no firm contraction of the fists.  His actions are light, quick, agile, continuous, and silent.  He is critical of any use of obvious strength or exhaling sound.

I have seen this method before and I believe it to have some merit, especially to a very advanced practitioner of Xingyi.  Perhaps as a variation after 40 or 50 years of traditional style practice.  However, in my experience, the most  effective practice of Xingyiquan is as taught to us by Dr. Wong.  Breath must coordinate with the action--strong strike, strong breath; soft, light movement, soft light breath.

Remember the traditional teachings:  Taiji to be practiced like a moving cloud, Bagua like a rolling river, and Xingyi like exploding thunder.
