TRAINING:  Subject : Mental Attitude -- I cannot overemphasize the dramatic effect this subject has had on my life and my training.  Volumes have been written about "positive mental outlook" and they have benefited millions in every walk of life, but martial artists have often overlooked this vital aspect of their workouts.  In an effort to be brief I will quote W. Clement Stone, "Whatever you are or have been, you can be what you want to be".  Approach every task, and especially your gong fu with the attitude that you can and will make it to the highest level.  Don't waste vital power by being negative toward others or critical of yourself.   This will reduce your capabilities and cause your qi to "contract".

Realize one important fact -- virtually all negative and critical attitudes are motivated by fear.  It takes some real introspection to find these fears and put them aside, but it is worth the effort and you have no greater ally than gong fu.

(NOTE:  Two books I could suggest to anyone pursuing this area further are:  Think and Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill (his universal principles can be as easily applied to gong fu as to making money) and The Mystic Path to Cosmic Power by Vernon Howard.)
