Training subject - Running -Today's popularity of running as a means of fitness and auxillary training for athletes has also become very  influential on the martial arts.  It is an excellent method for dramatic weight reduction and increased endurance.  I have not encountered any acupuncturists or internal systems masters that are opposed to this form of exercise.  The general consensus of their advice is that running can be very beneficial if pursued correctly:  do not run too fast and keep the upper body as relaxed as possible.  My own advise is to run on a natural surface (grass, sand, etc.) in an area where there is no car traffic or other interferences (for increased concentration) and to work up gradually.  Concerning distances, this is up to each individual's physical condition and time limitations.  Using running as a Gongfu supplement, I recommend running no more than five miles per training session.
